Water Resistant Wool

We've talked before about one awesome feature of wool: its ability to shed water and dirt. Why? Because the wool fiber has overlapping scale-like cuticles on the outside. Water will just bead up and roll away.

This morning, we grabbed a scrap of jacquard fabric to use as a coaster. After about two hours, look at how the condensation from the cup has beaded up on the surface wool! It literally does just roll off. You can try this mini-experiment for yourself with a scrap of wool fabric and an icy drink on a warm day.

Read even more reasons why wool is awesome!

PS -- wouldn't wool make a cool science project this year?
