FAQ: What is Melton Wool?

We have a lot of different types of wool fabric here at the Woolen Mill Store: worsteds and flannels, jacquards in three weights, and meltons.

So what is a melton?

Melton is a woven wool fabric that uses very thick fibers. The fabric is durable, water resistant, and wind resistant, making melton wool very popular for use in outerwear. We carry around a dozen different colors of melton fabric for you to choose from.

We are sometimes asked if we carry boiled wool. Although we don't typically carry boiled wool (never say never!) you can get a similar effect by felting our melton.
